Family awarded compensation over son’s death

The family of a Renfrewshire man who was hit by a car and fatally injured have been awarded around £100,000 in damages at the Court of Session, reports the Scotsman.

Gavin Currie had been out with friends when he was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing. He was taken to hospital in Paisley but died later from his injuries. The driver of the car was prosecuted for causing death by careless driving.

The 25-year-old's parents and older brother sued the car driver’s insurers. The judge, Lady Wise, acknowledged that no amount of money could lessen the family’s grief, but awarded compensation in recognition of the loss and grief they had suffered.

Gavin Currie’s parents were awarded £42,000 each and his brother was awarded £22,500. His father was also awarded an additional £7,211 as executor of his late son’s estate.
