The Southside of Glasgow is set to benefit from a massive £15.4 million regeneration project created by Southside Housing Association.
The Housing Association have set plans in motion to renovate 153 properties across the Pollokshields East and Strathbungo areas. Already almost 100 properties have been completed with the remaining properties scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
A large variety of properties are being renovated within the scheme, with the house sizes ranging from one bedroom up to seven bedrooms.
The project is focussing on properties left empty long-term, un-factored or in great need of repair. The chosen properties will receive many renovations to bring them up to a high standard, including the installation of new kitchens, bathrooms, windows and heating systems, as well as rewiring and removing old plasterwork where necessary.
Not all regenerated properties will be up for sale as some will be made available to those on the Southside Housing Association housing list and homeless households referred to the Housing Association by Glasgow City Council. A number of the homes will also be available to rent, aimed at working people on lower incomes.
Kenny McLean, city convener for neighbourhoods, housing and public realm at Glasgow City Council stated, “The renovation of these homes in Pollokshields East and Strathbungo will see many of them transformed to provide housing that is sustainable and a real asset to these communities. I am delighted that the council was able to support this project, one of many across Glasgow just now that are helping to bring high-quality homes to people and families in the city.”
