A boy who sustained severe brain damage as a result of failings by medical staff after his birth has been awarded compensation amounting to over £6 million, reports the Doncaster Free Press.
Ten-year-old Bradley Albans was born in Bassetlaw District General Hospital in Nottinghamshire and in the days following his birth he developed dangerously low blood sugar levels. According to his claim, this could have been easily treated, but medical staff failed to act and as a result Bradley sustained brain damage.
He is now severely disabled and has epilepsy. He will apparently never be able to work and will be reliant on others for the rest of his life.
The NHS Trust responsible for the hospital admitted liability for Bradley’s injuries and has apologised for its failings, reports the paper.
Bradley’s compensation will include a lump sum and index-linked payments to help meet his care needs for the rest of his life.
